The Knot and Zola Alternatives (2026)
The Knot and Zola are free and broad, built around a vendor marketplace and a registry store. The alternatives make a different trade. Who each is best for, from each company’s own site as of October 2026:
- Joy: best for couples who mainly want a free wedding website, RSVPs and a registry with no Joy fee on cash gifts.
- WeddingWire: best for couples who want free tools, including a seating chart, next to a vendor directory.
- Altessa: best for couples who want a planning workspace with no marketplace or store, for one payment.
- The Knot: best for couples who want a broad set of free tools around a vendor marketplace (for comparison).
- Zola: best for couples who want a registry store and free website in one place (for comparison).

The Knot and Zola are included for comparison. Features are as each company describes them on its own site in October 2026. “Not listed” means we could not find it on that company’s own site in October 2026, not that it does not exist. Prices and features change; check each site before you buy.
Is Joy a good alternative to Zola?
For the guest-facing side, yes. Joy says its wedding websites, planning tools and registry are free, and its guest list collects addresses, imports lists, messages guests and tracks RSVPs for every event. Its app is on iOS and Android, where Zola’s app is iOS only.
Joy says it takes no fee on cash gifts, with card fees going to the payment processor, where Zola lists a 2.5% card fee that the couple can choose to pass to guests. What Joy does not list on its product or help pages is a seating chart or a budget tool, so pair it with something else for those.
Is WeddingWire a good alternative to The Knot?
If you want the same kind of free toolkit with a seating chart included, it is worth a look. WeddingWire lists a free website, seating chart, checklist, budget tracker, guest list and vendor manager, and its seating chart lets you place tables, mark the bar and dance floor, and print the plan.
It is built the same way as The Knot: free tools next to a large directory of local vendors with reviews, with apps on iOS and Android. If what you want to leave behind is the marketplace itself, WeddingWire is a similar trade rather than a different one.
Is Altessa an alternative to The Knot and Zola?
For the planning itself, yes. Altessa is a one-time purchase, $80 or $120, with no vendor listings, store or ads. The budget is a ledger tied to your vendors’ quotes and payments, the timeline is dated to your wedding, and Premium adds a to-scale floor plan that seats each guest from the guest list.
It is not a replacement for everything they do. Altessa has no vendor marketplace and no registry, and its wedding website links to the registries you choose. If you want a registry, keep it on another site. It runs in the browser on a computer or phone; there is no native app.
What does The Knot do that the alternatives do not?
Its marketplace. The Knot’s help center describes a vendor marketplace, a Budget Advisor that estimates costs from what couples spend and connects you with in-budget vendors, and a free website, registry, checklist and style quiz. Its app is free on iOS and Android.
If you are hiring vendors from scratch, that is the reason to stay. If you have already booked, the alternatives above trade the marketplace for something else: Joy for a simpler guest side, Altessa for a connected plan. We could not find a seating chart or floor plan tool on The Knot’s own pages in October 2026.
What does Zola do that the alternatives do not?
Its registry and store. Zola offers a free website, a registry with group gifting, price matching and free shipping, a free guest list and budget tool, and vendor search, and it says it makes money selling gifts and stationery.
Its seating chart is free for up to 15 guests and runs on the iOS app and desktop, with a paid Premium version for more guests. If the registry is the center of your plans, Zola is hard to replace. If it is not, the alternatives above cover the rest without the store.
Common questions
What is the best free alternative to The Knot?
WeddingWire is the closest free alternative, with a free website, seating chart, budget tracker and guest list next to a vendor directory. Joy is the simpler free choice if you mainly need a website, RSVPs and a registry.
What is a good alternative to Zola without a registry store?
Joy keeps a free website, RSVPs and registry with no Joy fee on cash gifts. If you want planning tools with no store at all, Altessa is a one-time purchase with a budget, timeline, guest list and a to-scale seating chart, and its website links to registries elsewhere.
Is there a wedding planner app without vendor ads?
Yes. Altessa has no vendor listings or ads and is a one-time purchase of $80 or $120. Joy does not list a vendor marketplace on its site. The Knot and WeddingWire are built around vendor directories.
Can I use The Knot or Zola and another app together?
Yes. You can keep a registry and website on Zola or Joy and do the planning in another tool. Nothing in these products requires the others.
Which alternatives have a wedding seating chart?
WeddingWire lists a free seating chart, and Altessa Premium includes a to-scale floor plan and seating chart. Zola has one for up to 15 guests free. We could not find a seating chart on Joy’s or The Knot’s own product pages in October 2026.
